STEP 13 - CLEANING

broken image

Your travel may bring you to a posh hotel with all the amenities and 24-hour housekeeping service.

But sometimes a trip takes you to the family’s cozy cabin that hasn’t been opened up and cleaned out since last summer.

Or maybe you love going on rustic camping trips with limited water availability. Or perhaps you THOUGHT you were checking into that posh hotel with 24-hour housekeeping service only to discover that the sink’s dirty and the bedspread looks sketchy.

No matter what your travels bring environment-wise, you’re going to want to keep things clean. Several Essential Oils have purifying and cleansing properties. Some of the best include Melaleuca, Oregano, Tree Oils (such as Aborvitae, Cedarwood, and Fir) and Citrus Oils (such as Lemon, Bergamot, and Wild Orange).

Two blends are of note here, the PROTECTIVE BLEND and the CLEANSING BLEND. Both oils make great surface cleaners as well as hand cleansers (dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil to prevent skin irritation).

ALL PURPOSE SURFACE CLEANING SPRAY RECIPE

Put desired Essential Oils (see below) in a glass spray bottle. Add vinegar. Top with water. Shake and spray.

For an 8 oz. spray bottle, use 25–30 total drops of Essential Oil and 1–2 tbsp. vinegar.

For a 2 oz. spray bottle, use 7–10 total drops of Essential Oil and 1–2 tsp. vinegar.

Which oils should you use? Here are some Essential Oil Combo ideas:*

• 15 drops Protective Blend, 15 drops Cleansing Blend

• 10 drops Lemon, 10 drops Peppermint, 10 drops Melaleuca

• 10 drops Fir (Douglas or Siberian), 10 drops Wild Orange, 10 drops Protective Blend

*These are ideal for the 8 oz. spray bottle size. If using a smaller bottle, adjust accordingly.

Sometimes soap and water aren’t readily available during travel. But maybe you want to eat some finger food and the next bathroom stop isn’t for another hour. Or maybe you want to clean your hands but don’t want to trek back to the airplane bathroom.

An Essential Oil solution is the PROTECTIVE BLEND SANITIZING MIST. It cleanses hands as well as surfaces by killing 99.9% of germs and bacteria. This is the ideal product to have for times like these when you need to cleanse and purify hands (or your seat-back tray) without water. And as a bonus, it doesn’t dry out hands, but instead moisturizes while it cleans.

Once you’ve arrived at your accommodations, use your Surface Cleaning Spray or PROTECTIVE BLEND SANITIZING MIST on anything you’ll touch that may be harboring germs: door handles, remote controls, phones, toilet handles, faucets, ice buckets, etc. Don’t forget the bedding!
